Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out the thawing of a frozen food, rapidly without loss of proteins from the food, by introducing air moistened with water into a thawing chamber, thereby applying the sensible heat of the air and the latent heat of a large amount of the condensed water to the frozen food.
CONSTITUTION: Air is introduced into a humidifying tank 1 through an air inlet 1A by the negative pressure generated by an exhaust fan 4. The tank 1 is fed with hot water heated with a solar water heater 2 through a hot water feed pipe 10, and the hot water is sprayed into the tank 1 through a spraying pipe 6 by a circulation pump 5. Air is contacted with liquid water in the tank 1, and the heated and humidified air is introduced through a duct 7 into a thawing chamber 3, where it is contacted with the frozen food 3A and evolves the latent heat upon condensation of the water vapor contained therein. The condensed water is flowed down along the side of the frozen food 3A, and discharged through a drain opening 11. The cooled and dehumidified air is exhausted with the exhaust fan 4 through an exhaust duct 3C.
