Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A cephalosporin compound shown by the formula I (R1 is H or methoxy; R2 is H, acetoxy, or cyclic ring bonded through S) and its salt.
EXAMPLE: 7β-[ 2-(2-Aminothiazole-4-yl)-3-hydroxypropionamide ]-3-[ (1-methyltetrazole-5-yl)thiomethyl]-Δ3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
USE: Antibacterial agents. Effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The agents can be administered orally or parenterally.
PROCESS: A compound shown by the formula II (R3 is H or COOH-protecting group) is reacted with a compound shown by the formula III (R4 is H or NH2-protecting group), and, if necessary, with the removal of the protecting group, to give a compound shown by the formula I. The reaction is carried out in a solvent, e.g., THF, preferably in the presence of a base.
