Abstract

PURPOSE: To deposit pigment particles on the surface of the fluorescent substance uniformly and firmly and to obtain the titled fluorescent substance capable of providing a high-performance cathode ray tube, by using gelatin together with a polyfunctional high polymer organic acid, e.g., polyacrylic acid, instead of gum arabic, as a binder.
CONSTITUTION: A binder aqueous solution consisting of a polyfunctional high polymer organic acid, e.g., poly(meth)acrylic acid, and gelatin, is added to a water suspension of a fluorescent substance and pigment, pH is adjusted to not larger than 4.5 and pigment particles are deposited on the surface of fluorescent substance. The resulting substance is heat-treated preferably at 120W200°C to give the desired fluorescent substance with pigment.
EFFECT: Since a synthetic high polymer organic acid is used, quality control is carried out with ease, and a fluorescent substance with pigment usable in a wide range of application can be obtained.
