Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a flicker from being caused even when light of long wavelength arrives, by driving a pickup unit with driving pulses which are at a low level at any time except when charges are transferred from a vertical transfer register to a horizontal transfer register. CONSTITUTION:When a pickup unit is driven with vertical transfer output gate electrode driving pulses completely synchronizing with vertical transfer pulses, charge transfer from vertical transfer register 2 to horizontal transfer register 4 is brought under the control of vertical transfer register output gate 26 and vertical transfer pulses are inverted in polarity at every field, so that even if some of fort carriers generated by incident light would leak to vertical transfer register 2, the quantity of them varies according to every field in photoelectric converting storage diode 1. Then, when the leakages between two fields, i.e., the storage period of diode 1 in interlacing operation is totalized, two vertical charge transfer electrode groups 5 and 6 are under exactly the same conditions, so that a flicker due to charges leaking to vertical transfer register 2 can completely be eliminated.
