Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title high-purity compound useful as an N-protecting agent in peptide synthesis, by reacting acethylacetone with thiourea in the presence of hydrochloric acid as a catalyst in water as a solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Acethylacetone and htiourea are dissolved in water under heating, and hydrochloric acid as a catalyst is added dropwise to the solution at 30W100°C, preferably 40W60°C. The mixture is then reacted for 2W24hr to give the objective compound. The amount of the thiourea is 0.8W1.2mol, preferably 0.95W1.05mol, based on 1.0mol of the acetylacetone, and the amount of the hydrochloric acid is 1.0W6.0mol, preferably 1.0W3.0mol.
USE: An active ester for peptide synthesis or a metal corrosion inhibitor.
