Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the thickness controlling in a prompt response manner with high accuracy by detecting the value of the sheet thickness which becomes the feedback quantity for controlling the accuracy of the sheet thickness within the section where the sheet is on a drum surface and controlling the molten metal flow from a nozzle or drum peripheral speed based on this detection value.
CONSTITUTION: The molten metal 16 in a furnace 18 is injected onto the surface 14A of a drum 14 which is rotated about a shaft 12 by a motor 10, from the nozzle 26 at the top end of a molten metal pipe 24, and the molten metal is cooled to a sheet 36, which is then coiled on a drum 34. At this time, before the sheet 36 fusion deposits on the drum surface 14A, the sheet thickness value to become the feedback quantity for controlling the thickness accuracy of the sheet is detected by a thickness measuring device 68. Next, based on this detected value, by controlling the molten metal injection rate from the nozzle 26 by the air pressure in the spacing 20 in the furnace 18 or the thickness of the sheet is maintained at a desired value by controlling the peripheral speed or the like of the drum 14. With this method, the fluctuations of the thickness are rapidly detected and fed back, and therefore the measurement errors may be reduced and the sheet shape may be correctly maintained.
