Abstract
PURPOSE:To effeciently carry out the uniform cooling with a little amount of water, and to reduce the cooling distorsion and the material irregularity, by spouting water from the underwater nozzle to form the water column above the water surface, by cooling the steel sheet's undersurface with this water column, and by permitting the water to fall down into the water tank after colliding with the steel sheet. CONSTITUTION:A rectangular water tank 4 is installed below and between the carrier rollers 9, and several upward nozzles 5 are arranged in the bottom of the water tank 4 along the sheet breadth. The length of the water tank 4 in the direction of sheet breadth is made longer than the maximum sheet breadth in order to permit the cooling water forming laminar flow on top surface of the steel sheet 1 to fall from the edge of sheet breadth down into the water tank 4. After previously filling up to full the water tank 4 with water supplied from the pipe line 11, the water spout from the nozzle 5 is started through the header 10 so as to match with the timing of pass of the steel sheet 1, and then, the water supply from the pipe line 11 is stopped. After starting the cooling, the flooded condition of the water tank 4 is kept by only the cooling water returning to the water tank 4, and the excess water overflows from the upper edge 8 of the water tank 4 and falls down into the pit.
