Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a color developer of pressure sensitive paper, in high purity, by heating an aqueous slurry of water-insoluble metal salt of a substituted salicylic acid, thereby accelerating the growth of the particles in the slurry, improving the efficiency of filtration and washing, and reducing the labor neccesary to the drying operation.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous slurry of a water-insoluble metal salt of a substituted salicylic acid of formula (R1,, R2 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, etc.), e.g. 3,5-dicyclohexylsalicylic acid, 3-cyclohexyl-5-phenylsalicylic acid, etc., is heated pref. at about 40W100°C, optionally in the presence of an organic solvent such as methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, etc. The growth of the particles in the slurry is accelerated by this treatment, and the metal salt of the substituted salicylic acid containing ≤20% of water can be obtained by filtering the slurry. Addition of the organic solvent lowers the softening point of the water-insoluble salt, and reduces the particle growth temperature.
