Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are H or lower alkyl; n is 3-6). EXAMPLE:The compound of formula I wherein R<1>=R<2>=H, and n=4. USE:Selective ion extracting agent. PROCESS:The compound of formula I is prepared by reducing the compound of formula II with a reducing agent (e.g. zinc powder, iron powder, aluminum powder, etc.) in the presence of an alkali (e.g. NaOH, KOH, etc.) in water, organic solvent such as methanol, or their mixture, under stirring and heating. The reaction temperature is 50-90 deg.C, pref. 60-80 deg.C. Each ionic species in a mixture can be selectively separated or isolated in extremely high efficiency, by the extraction with the compound of formula I taking advantage of its characteristic complex-forming capability with various ions and its change in structure with light.
