Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce effectively NOx present in high-temperature dirty waste gases by sending hydrocarbons into the upper part of a side- or end- firing type glass melting furnace equipped with a heat recoverer. CONSTITUTION:When the combustion burners 2, 2', 9, and 10 inside the upper combustion chambers 1 and 8 of a side- or end-firing type glass melting furnace provided with the heat recoveres 4, 5, 11, and 12 are being fired, hydrocarbons (oxygeneous derivatives), e.g., heavy oil, kerosine, etc., without air for combustion, are injected into the combustion chambers 1 and 8 in such a way as to go counter to the flow of combustion waste gas through one of the noncombustion burners 3 and 3' or the noncombustion burners 15, 15', 15'', and 15''', where fuel is gradually burned and the waste gas is introduced through the ports 6, 7, 13, and 14 into the heat recoveres 4, 5, 11, and 12.
