Abstract
PURPOSE: To promote the exhaust gas combusting reaction, by communicating an igniting combustion chamber and a mixing swirl chamber incorporating therein a helical tube for causing swirl injection with each other, and providing a swirl combustion chamber incorporating the helical tube for causing relative swirl injection.
CONSTITUTION: A pipe 1 for injecting fluid A ( rich mixture of exhaust gas) under pressure is fixed to the mixing swirl chamber 3, which incorporates therein the helical tube 6 for causing swirl injection that is formed with a swirl injection port 7 and into which an igniting combustion chamber 4 is inserted. Similarly, a pipe 2 for injecting fluid B (lean mixture or secondary air) under presser is fixed to the swirl combustion chamber 5, which incorporated therein a helical tube 10 for causing relative swirl injection. Swirling fluid B is mixed with and combusted by the swirling combustion flame of fluid A ignited in the chamber 4 and combusted at the center of the chamber 5. With such an arrangement, it is enabled to promote stable low-temperature combustion of lean mixture for reducing the amount of nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine and to purify the exhaust gas by recombusting noxious uncombusted substances like carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons contained in the exhaust gas.
