Abstract

PURPOSE: To drastically reduce the electric power cost and anode breakage by a method wherein control is made on the basis of estimated value of current distribution corrected by an anode penality indicating the present current distribution condition and by an anode handicap indicating the sensitivity given to current distribution by change in electrode distance, in a horizontal type mercury electrolytic tank having anode whose elevation can be controlled.
CONSTITUTION: Current values 13 at each anode 3 in an electrolytic tank 1 are measured as voltage drop across the points A, B on the bus 11. Electrolytic voltage at the position corresponding to an anode elevation motor 4 is measured as voltage 14 across the points B, C on the bus 12. Both the measured values are input to an electrolytic voltage controller 17 in an electrode distance controller 10. The controller 17 is given set-current distribution value 22, set-electrolytic voltage value 23, and an anode handicap correction signal 20 from a corrected current distribution controller 16. Then, the controller 17 outputs an optimum motor signal 15 to an anode elevation controller to control motor running.
