Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it possible to reduce the power consumption of a memory panel greatly, by varying voltages applied to the 1st and 2nd electrodes respectively.
CONSTITUTION: Voltage VA is applied between display anode lead 14 and cathode lead 44 of the memory panel, and voltage VS is between auxiliary anode 34 and 44 to adjust VA and VS, so that discharge cells at intersection between leads will operate as shown by straight lines l1 and l2. An address preparation point is indicated by (1); an increase VA reaches point (2) where the display discharge of cells on a line along lead 14 is lighted up, and decrease in VA half-selective point (3) where the lighting state is not changed. In order to reduce the power consumption of the panel, the best points where the discharge during a non-addrssing period can be maintained use the 1st-class and 2nd-class discharge maintenance points 6 and 7. In this case, a decrease in cathode lead voltage after addresing to cells on the line along lead 44 makes it possible to change cell-application voltage conditions from preparation point (1) to maintenance point (6), and an increase in display anode lead make a shift to maintenance point (7) possible.
