Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve engine performance by promoting atomization of fuel and effective mixing of fuel and air, through provision of a flow straightener made of ceramic material formed with a number of apertures and heated with supply of current at a portion in the intake pipe located between fuel injection valve and throttle valve. CONSTITUTION:If temperature of cooling water is low at the time of starting engine with closing of key switch 28, water-temperature switch 27 is turned ON and contact of relay 26 is closed, so that flow straightener 20 disposed between nozzle 14a of fuel injection valve 14 and throttle valve 4 in intake pipe 3 is heated. When fuel is subsequently ejected from fuel injection valve 14, most of fuel is passed through a number of apertures 21 formed in flow straightener 20 and atomized into fine particles, so that fuel is mixed with air satisfactorily. Then, the mixture flows along inclined surface 24 of intake pipe 3 and that of projection 25, and mixing of fuel and air is further promoted, whereafter mixture is drawn into cylinders. Here, the flow straightener 20 is made of ceramic material having positive resistance-temperature characteristics and having Curie point at a particular temperature.
