Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the fall of the sternward thrust of an outboard engine equipped with a boss exhaust device by providing an exhaust port for an engine reversion.
CONSTITUTION: A propeller boss 2 is provided with an exhaust port 18, while to the front part of a propeller a valve seat board 21 is fixed. Moreover, a valve disc 24 is fitted rotatably to the front part. The valve disc 24, having a resisting projection 28, is rotated by the resistance of water and takes two positions in normal engine rotation and reversion. At the position in normal rotation of the valve disc 24, the exhaust port 22 in normal rotation of the valve seat board 21 and the exhaust port in normal rotation of the valve disc 24 are communicated, the exhaust gas being exhausted from an exhaust port 18. At engine reversion, the exhaust port in normal rotation is shut, while an exhaust port 23 in engine reversion provided in the outer tube part 11 of the front part of the propeller opens. In this case, the exhaust gas is sent out on the downstream side of the propeller. Therefore, the racing of the propeller due to the involvement of the exhaust gas with a stream of water in the propeller is avoided and a sufficient rearward thrust can be obtained.
