Abstract
PURPOSE: To arrest the exhaust noise at the idling, and to minimize the exhaust resistance at the high speed forward movement, and also to prevent the mixing of bubbles to the propeller at the backward movement.
CONSTITUTION: The exhaust expansion chamber 14 is constituted by fixing the housing 31 on the stern plate 12 by the fastening member 32, and the main exhaust port 33 opens backward at the lower part of the exhaust expansion chamber, and the sub exhaust port 34 of a small section area is provided at the upper part. The position of the main exhaust port 33 is selected at the position which is below the water surface when the ship is going backward or slowly going forward and is above water at the high speed movement. By doing so, the exhaust gas is exhausted only from the sub exhaust port 34 at the idling and exhausted from both main and sub exhaust ports when the ship is moving forward at high speed.
