Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide title glass having desired strength and visible ray transmissivity by a method wherein a glass plate on whose surface metal cpd. is applied is heated to allow metal ion to permeate into the glass, and then is quenched.
CONSTITUTION: Paste made by mixing metal cpd. such as silver chloride and cuprous oxide, binder such as cellulose nitrate and rosins, and conditioner such as water and terpentine oil is applied to the surface of glass plate and is dried. Then, the glass plate is heated to 670W780°C to effect thermal strengthening and to allow metal ions to permeate into the glass, producing color. This is then rapidly cooled thereby providing transparent, colored, air-cooled reinforced glass having visible ray transmissivity of 10W90%.
