Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture infrared ray absorbing filter glas having superior near infrared ray absorbing characteristics and no greening tendency by adding a specified amount of Fe2O3 and/or CeO2 to phosphate matrix glass contg. CuO.
CONSTITUTION: This filter glass for absorbing near infrared rays consists of 100pts.wt. CuO-phosphate matrix glass and 0.01W5wt% Fe2O3 and/or CeO2 (0.01W 0.5% Fe2O3 and 0.5W5% CeO2). The glass has superior spectral transmittacne in the 400W600nm wavelength range of rays of light and superior sharp cutting characteristics in the 600W800nm wavelength range, and it is suitable for a filter for correcting the visibility of a photosensitive element or a filter for a color television camera. When Fe2O3 and CeO2 are used separately, <0.01% Fe2O3 and <0.5% CeO2 do not produce the effect, and >0.5% Fe2O3 and >5% CeO2 deteriorate the spectral transmittance in the shorter wavelength visible range. When both the oxides are used combinedly, the CeO2 content may be <0.5%.
