Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently decompose hydrazine contained in exhaust water from a high pressure boiler of a steam-power station or the like by oxidation in the presence of a copper catalyst as well as to recover copper used as a catalyst to reuse said copper availably.
CONSTITUTION: The water 6 to be treated containing hydragize is adjsted to pH about 9W12 and introduced to an oxidizing tower 2, and, at the same time, an aqueous solution 8 containing mineral acid salt of copper such as copper sulphate, copper chloride or the like is added as well as air 9 is supplied. Herein, hydrazine is almost completely oxidized by catalytic action of copper iron and oxygen in air to decompose the said hydrazine into nitrogen and water, on the other a large amount of copper ion added as a catalyst is changed to water insoluble copper hydroxide. Subsequently, the water 10 issued from an oxidizing tower 2 is passed through a filtering machine 3 to catch the said water insoluble copper hydroxide and the outflow water 11 is passed through a cationic exchange resin tower 4 to remove a minute amount of copper ion contained in the said outflow water 11.
