Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently separate and recover V and W from a substance contg. V and W with no environmental pollution by treating the substance with alkali and adding an alkaline earth metal salt after which the resulting precipitate is treated in a predetermined procedure.
CONSTITUTION: Alkali is added to a substance contg. V and W such as spent catalyst and allowed to react, forming a slurry. The slurry is filtered to obtain an aq. soln. of alkali vanadate and alkali tungstate. An alkaline earth metal salt is then added to the aq. soln. and the resulting precipitate is dissolved in hydroxycarboxylic acid and/or polycarboxylic acid and inorg. acid, and concentrated to form a precipitate contg. tungsten compds. Acid is added to the predipitate to redissolve the alkaline earth metal salt and the tungsten compds. are recovered by filtration. On the other hand, the filtrate is properly treated to recover vanadium compds.
