Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance Mo extraction efficiency by a method wherein a waste catalyst for desulfurization is oxidized and calcined, and is treated with leaching process using aqueous ammonia and aqueous solution of the ammonium salt at a specific temperature under O2 partial pressure, so that Mo component is selectively extracted.
CONSTITUTION: Desulfurization waste catalyst is oxidized and roasted to remove deposited oil and sulfur component. The roasted product is treated with pressurized leaching using aqueous solution of ammonia and ammonia salt or two or more of ammonia salt (preferably ammonium sulfate dissolved into aqueous ammonia or ammonium carbonate solution), at a temperature higher than 110°C under oxygen partial pressure of more than 1kg/cm2 for 30min or more. This selectively extracts Mo component in high yield of about 97% or more but does not dissolve any of Al component constituting catalyst carrier. In contrast with conventional method, this process extracts little V component, simplifies Mo purification process, and provides extracted liquid easy to filter allowing Mo acid to be easily separated by precipitation by common method.
