Abstract

PURPOSE: A waste solution resulting from the wet desulfurization of coke furnace gas, containing prescribed amounts of the objective compound, is concentrated in two stages and/or cooled to precipitate and separate sulfates and thiocyanates respectively, thus recovering thiocyanates from the waste solutions easily.
CONSTITUTION: A wet desulfurizer for coke furnace gas is operated under such conditions as most of thiosulfates are converted into sulfates so that the content of thiosulfates in the waste solution is made less than half of the thiocyanate content. Then, the resultant waste solution is concentrated almost to the saturation of thiocyanates and/or cooled to precipitate sulfates, which are filtered off. Further, the remaining solution is concentrated to the saturation of thiosulfates and/or cooled to precipitate the thiocyanates, which is recovered by filtration.
