Abstract
PURPOSE: In extracting an alkali metal from slag, to recover sodium carbonate practically reusable even in continuous operation, by adding lime or slaked lime to an extraction tank and specifying a residue ratio of impurities.
CONSTITUTION: Lime or slaked lime 11 is added to the extraction tank 1 and the carbon dioxide gas 12 is introduced into it to adjust the pH of the solution. The impurities P and S which are eluted together with N are insolubilized as shown by the formulas I and II, and the amount of SiO2 is suppressed to a practically acceptable range. The remaining ratio of the impure ingredients in the extracted solution is made ≤0.5. Namely, the extracted slurry 13 is passed through the thickener 3, separated from the insoluble residue 14 by the filter 4, crystallized by the tank 5, and separated from sodium bicarbonate 15 by the filter 7. The circulated solutions 8 and 9 are fed to the tank 1 during a cycle of the operation. When an elution ratio of the impure ingredients to their amount in the slag is a, and a remaining ratio of the impure ingredients to the elution amount after removal treatment is r, a relationship shown by the formula III is obtained, and r is made ≤0.5.
