Abstract

PURPOSE: To clarify the waste gas economically and efficiently while regenerating and reciruclating NaOH, by a method wherein a harmful waste gas containing hydrogen chloride, sulfur oxides and the like is treated with an aqueous solution of NaOH and the aqueous liquid derived from the treatment is electrolyzed.
CONSTITUTION: The exhaust gas 2 containing hydrogen chloride, SOx and the like is brought into reaction with an aqueous NaOH solution 3 in a smoke scrubber 4 to form salts such as NaCl, Na2SO4, Na2SO3, etc. Simultaneously, heavy metals, Ca, Mg and the like contained in the exhaust gas are also removed by dissolving them into the solution, and the gas is discharged as a clean gas via an outlet 5. The aqueous solution containing the various salts and the like as solutes is treated in a purification plant 7 to remove the ions of heavy metals, Ca, Mg, SO4 and SO3 by precipitation, then the residual aqueous NaCl solution 8 is brought into reaction with NaClO 10 in a treating tank 9 to reduce the COD value. The thus treated solution is then electrolyzed in a diaphragm type electrolytic cell 12 to produce Cl gas and NaOH. The NaOH is reused in the smoke scrubber 4, while the Cl gas is fed to a plant 17 for producing NaClO.
