Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a simple and less-expensive process for producing thermal head by successively forming a resistance layer and a conductive layer on one side of an insulating film and effecting an etching on the conductive and resistance layers successively to obtain a required pattern. CONSTITUTION:Sprocket holes 11a, 11b, connection ports 12a, 12b for dirrectional element array and through-holes 13a, 13b are formed in an insulating film 10. Subsequently, a conductive foil is adhered to the reverse side of the film to form selector terminals 21a, 21b by photo-litho. Meanwhile, a conductive foil is prepared to have a resistance layer on one side thereof. This foil is adhered to the obverse side of the film 10 with the resistance layer placed inside. Subsequently, driver terminals 31a, 31b and lead wires 32a, 32b and then the resistance layer are etched to form heat- generating elements 41a, 41b. Thereafter, the directional element aray is bump- connected to the lead wires 32a, 32b to obtain a thermal head.
