Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy of measuring forward voltage drop in a thyristor diode and to obtain excellent reproduciblity, by measuring forward voltage therein by a method which causes no increase in the temperature of a junction portion thereof.
CONSTITUTION: In order to measure forward voltage drop FVD, an electric current of a sine half-wave is applied from an electric current source 13 to a sample 1, and a peak of the electric current is detected by a peak detecting circuit 11, FVD being measured by a FVD measuring circuit 12. In this measuring method, an increase in a conjunction portion of the sample 1 can be miminized so that a measuring accuracy is improved to a great extent. When a capacitor 18 has been charged to a predetermined current level after a switch 15 had been closed, the switch 15 is opened by a comparator circuit 24 to turn off the electric current source used for measurement. a thyristor 21 is then turned on to rsonate at an arbitrary resonance frequency a resonance circuit having a reactor 20 and the capacitor 18, and the first one cycle is applied to the sample 1.
