Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible controlling of current density even when electrical input is constant disposing an arc form controlling gas nozzle in the required portion at the time of generating arc with a non-consumable electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A control nozzle 3 and shielding gas nozzle 3 are disposed coaxially to an electrode 1 and the gas 4 controlled to pulse from is intermittently spouted from the nozzle 2. At the time t1, the gas spouts and the arc 6 generated between base metal 1 and electrode 7 spreads. At the time t2, the gas spouting stops and the produced arc 6 contracts. By controlling the gas flow around the arc 6 in this way, the arc shape is controlled. As a result, even if the electrical input is constant, controlling of current density (energy density) may be accomplised without depending on pulse current superposing system.
