Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase a welding speed while preventing molten metal from dripping, by performing consumable electrode system gas shielded arc welding with alternate inverse polarity and normal polarity.
CONSTITUTION: Under an external welding start command, controller 24 turns on converter 20 to flow an inverse-polarity welding current, and an inverse-polarity arc is continued within three seconds to turn off converter 20. Simultaneously, converter 22 is turned on to flow a normal-polarity welding current, and a normal- polarity arc is continued within three seconds. Therefore, arc discharge is repeated between electrode 10 of consumption and weld base metal 12 with alternate inverse polarity and normal polarity to carry out arc welding.
