Abstract
PURPOSE:To fix an electrode plate unit securely within a battery receptacle without need for reinforcement of the outer extensions of electrode plates, by providing a downwardly tapered portion at a lower part of an outer periphery of a cylindrical part of a lid, which cylindrical part is fused to the battery receptacle. CONSTITUTION:A paste-like active material is filled in the spacing of a lattice formed by strip-shaped lathes of lead or lead alloy. Ribbon-shaped lattice members, which are integral with the lattice of lathes, extend upwardly as extensions 2a from parts of the lathes. The strip-shaped positive pole plate and negative pole plate are wound in a swirling fashion with a strip-shaped separator interposed therebetween to form an electrode plate unit 1a, which is then enclosed within a can-shaped battery receptacle 4 made of a thermoplastic resin. Above an opening of said battery receptacle, a rid 5 integrally provided with a cylindrical portion 6 having a downwardly tapered portion 9 at the lower outer peripheral portion thereof is placed in such a manner that the lower extremity of the cylindrical portion 6 comes above the upper peripheral portion of the electrode plate unit with a clearance 8 therebetween. Then, the lid is fit in the opening. Thereafter, the opening of the battery receptacle and cylindrical portion 6 is fused together by means of an ultrasonic wave.
