Abstract
PURPOSE:To prolong the lifetime of a thermal head by a method wherein a heating resistor is provided on a glass layer provided on a substrate and further an insulating sodium shield layer is provided between the glass layer and the heating resistor so as to check the change in the resistance of the heating resistor due to the move of a sodium ion. CONSTITUTION:On an insulating substrate 11 is provided a glass layer 12 about 50mu thick, on which is also provided an insulating sodium shield layer 13 of about 3,000Angstrom formed of silicon nitride and the like, whereon is formed a thin film of a heating resistor by spattering, whereon further being formed a thin film conductor. After patterning being applied to the thin film substrate thus produced, a heating resistor 14 and a wiring conductor 15 connected thereto are formed on the thin film substrate and thereon an insulating protection film 16 is fitted. By the device thus formed the move of the sodium ion to the negative pole of the heating resistor is checked, thereby a thermal head having a very long life being obtained.
