Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect the leakage point of a pipeline easily and definitely by arranging the pipe made of a material, which swells by the immersion of a liquid, near the pipeline and then by fining a reflection point at the swelling part with an ultrasonic wave sent from one terminal.
CONSTITUTION: The outside of detecting pipe 1 made of a material swelling by the immersion of oil such as natural rubber and isobutylene-isoprene rubber is covered with reinforcing protective layer 3 made of rubber, etc., with a buried mateial, in which oil immerses rapidly, such as nylon and metal meshes, thereby keeping the outer diameter of swelling detecting pipe 1 constant. Then, pipe 1 is arranged as an ultrasonic waveguide along the pipeline closely and an ultrasonic wave is sent from its one terminal. Oil, if leaking, causes detecting pipe 1 to swell and inner cavity 2 is deformed to increase in inner diameter or to be completely blocked. As a result, the ultrasonic wave is reflected there. This reflection point is measured to detect the oil leakage point of the pipeline.
