Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure the simple detection for the presence or absence of the fluid according to the variation of the refractive index which is caused by the existence of the detected fluid featuring the fixed refractive index at the interface part where the light entered from one end of the 1st optical conductor is transmitted to the 2nd optical conductor. CONSTITUTION:When the light given from the light source is put in through one end 14 of 1st optical conductor 1, the light travels within core component 11 with repetition of reflection on the interface between conductor 1 and coated layer 12 to be radiated into the space of inner part 42 of tube 4 from end face 13. The radiated light is scattered outside after transmitting through tube 4. As a result, an extremely small amount of the light reaches the end face of 2nd optical conductor 2. When space 42 of tube 4 is filled with the water, the light is refracted by the water and goes toward incident end 23 of conductor 2 to be put into core component 21. Thus the presence or absence of the water can be detected based on the volume of the light put into component 21.
