Abstract
PURPOSE:To stabilize the glow discharge of a laser device for exciting the glow discharge by a laser excitation in a gas laser by dividing anode or cathode into a plurality of segments and connecting them to independent DC power supplies. CONSTITUTION:The anode 1 of DC power supplies 4a, 4b is used commonly, and cathode 2 is divided into m and (n-m) pieces of blocks or segments. When one of electrodes 2a-2n is transferred to arc discharge, abnormal arc discharge transition can be sufficiently detected from the ripple currents of the normal glow discharges to increase the effect by increasing the number of the segments. When both electrodes are divided. similar effect can be obtained. According to this configuration abnormal arc discharge transition can be exactly detected to control stably glow discharge.
