Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of a cathode and the deterioration of a mixture gas in a laser device by detecting the transition to an arc discharge by the variation of the discharge voltage to detect it within partial arc discharge state. CONSTITUTION:When a reactor 7 is inserted to observe the waveform of a discharge voltage V0 between an anode 1 and cathode 2 through resistors 8, 9, the discharge voltage is instantaneously dropped before transferring to the arc discharge and returned to the original voltage as a partial arc phenomenon. When this phenomenon occurs, a laser excitation efficiency is decreased, the frequency of the arc discharges is increased to finally become the arc discharge. When detecting the fact that the voltage V0 becomes less than set value, a current is not increased owing to the effect of the inductance in the circuit to eliminate the damage of the electrodes due to the arc discharge and the deterioration of the mixture gas therein. It is noted that the timing change of the voltage V0 may also be detected to become higher than the set value.
