Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise the efficiency of spark machining, by detecting which of plural time bands contains no-load time extending from the application of voltage to a machining gap to the production of discharge and by controlling suspension time in stages. CONSTITUTION:The wave form of a voltage, which is applied to a machining gap between an electrode 1 and a workpiece 2, is divided into a plurality of time bands. It is detected which of the time bands contains no-load time Kt extending from the application of the voltage to the production of discharge. Electrical current feed suspension time Pt is controlled in stages. The time of the voltage application is divided into three time bands, for example. Time from the voltage application to the first time band is represented by Kc1 and time from the voltage application to the second time band is represented by Kc2. If 0<=Kt<Kc1, the suspension time is controlled to Pc1. If Kc1<=Kt<Kc2, the suspension time is controlled to Pc2. If Kc2<=Kt<=taum, the suspension time is controlled to Pc3 (Pc1>Pc2>Pc3).
