Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a feed additive containing a large amount of inorganic components which constitute the bodies of poultry and cattle and improve the physiological functions, by calcining a specific clay mineral, thereby oxidizing the mineral and removing the impurities therefrom.
CONSTITUTION: A clay mineral (e.g. montmorillonite) having a specific crystalline surface area of ≥20m2/g, and containing 60W70wt% SiO2, ≤13wt% Al2O3, 3W 5wt% Fe2O3, 1W3wt% K2O, 1W3wt% Na2O, 1W3wt% CaO, and a small amount of Ba and other minerals is calcined in an oxygen atmosphere at a temperature not to cause the destruction or deformation of the crystal structure, e.g. at 200W 400°C. The components of the clay are oxidized and the impurities such as sulfur, sulfur oxides, oraganic materials etc. are removed from the clay by calcination. The calcined clay is granulated or pulverized.
