Abstract
Refractory bodies are produced by wet milling a mixture of 15-30% hydrated alumina, 85-70% calcined alumina, 1-8% zirconium silicate and 0.2-4.0% titania to a particle size of less than 40 m at a pH of 4-6, coagulating by the addition of small quantities of an oxide which forms a spinel with alumina, e.g. boria or zinc oxide and sintering. The sintered refractory may be granulated, mixed with a further wet milled mixture, shaped and fired.
