Abstract
Refractory bodies are prepared by mixing 60-98% by weight of periclase particles having a magnesia content of at least 95% with 2-40% of either chrome ore particles having an SiO2 content of less than 4% or chromic oxide, shaping the mixture under pressure and firing at 2900-3200 DEG F. for a minimum of 4 hours at the lower temperature or 1 hour at the higher temperature. A temporary binder of lignin sulphite may be added to the unfired mixture. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 869,494.
