Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a foam having smooth and soft touch and excellent water absorptivity and being soft even in the dry state, by adding a crosslinking agent and a specific aqueous dispersion of rubber to an aqueous solution of silk fibroin, foaming and setting the resulting mixture, and subjecting the foam to crosslinking treatment.
CONSTITUTION: A scored silk stock is dissolved in 2W50 times (solution ratio) of an aqueous solution containing 15W80wt% of an alkali (alkaline earth) metal salt. The resulting aqueous solution is dialyzed to obtain an aqueous fibroin solution having a concentration of 1W20wt% and containing 0.003W0.06wt% of the metal salt. To the aqueous fibroin solution there are added 99W99.5wt% (solids) of an aqueous dispersion of NBR, SBR or natural rubber (all the rubbers have a molecular weight of 2×104W20×104), a crosslinking agent and a surfactant so as to obtain a solution having a fibroin concentration of 0.5W10wt%. Then, the solution is foamed and set under intense agitation while air or inert gas is passed into the solution. Then, the foam produced is crosslinked by wet-heating at 50W130°C, and dried at 50W130°C to obtain a foam having a bulk density of 0.02W0.3g/cm3.
