Abstract
PURPOSE:To readily produce a wood based foam using a process suitable in industrialization, by dissolving a wood material in an organic compound containing an active group capable of carrying out polymerization, introducing a substituent group into hydroxyl group of the resultant solution, foaming and curing the solution. CONSTITUTION:A wood material (e.g. wood powder) is dissolved in an organic compound (preferably polyhydric alcohol) containing active group capable of carrying out polymerization (preferably by adding 10-1,000pts.wt. wood material to 100 organic compound and stirring the mixture at 250 deg.C) and the resultant wood solution is subjected to preferably esterification or etherification to introduce a substituent (preferably hydroxyethyl group) to hydroxyl group of the above-mentioned solution and a crosslinking gent, curing agent and foaming agent are added thereto and the blend is foamed and cured to provide the wood based foam.
