Abstract

1491530 Cellular filled foamed polymers CESKOMORAVSKE ETERNITOVE ZAVODY NARODNI PODNIK 1 Oct 1975 40117/75 Heading C3C Cellular materials are made by foaming a bonding agent in the form of an aqueous precondensate or an aqueous dispersion of vinylidene and/or vinyl chloride polymers by whisking or introducing a compressed gas thereinto, optionally in the presence of an emulsifier, mixing particles of a solid cellular polymeric filler into the foam, partially drying the mixture at a temperature of less than 100‹ C. and then moulding the mixture with heating at a temperature of at least 100‹ C. so as to simultaneously cure the precondensate or coagulate the dispersion respectively. In the examples an aqueous urea formaldehyde precondensate or an aqueous dispersion of a vinylidene chloride/ vinyl chloride copolymer was mixed with isopropyl naphthalene sulphonic acid or its sodium salt (to act as foaming agent and a catalyst for the precondensate) and foamed either by compressed air, carbon dioxide or nitrogen, or by rapid agitation, then prefoamed polystyrene globules and optionally aqueous urea formaldehyde precondensate, and diatomaceous earth containing silica and hydrated alumina, the mixture was partially dried pressed in a mould and treated with steam or hot air.
