Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the purification of exhaust gas compatible with the improvement in operation and the fuel consumption ratio of a vehicle by increasing the EGR ratio (exhaust gas reflux ratio of an engine) almost proportionally to the increase of load.
CONSTITUTION: An EGR valve 4 is installed in an EGR passage 8, for controlling the amount of exhaust gas reflux. A pressure-regulating valve 5 is installed in the negative-pressure passage which connects the EGR valve 4 and an EGR port 12 of a carburetor 1 to each other, for regulating the negative pressure level sent to a diaphragm chamber 46 of the EGR valve 4 from the EGR port 12 according to the exhaust gas pressure in a constant pressure chamber 48 in the EGR valve 4. A negative pressure-controlling valve 6 interlocked with a throttle valve 11 of the carburetor is installed in the passage which connects the pressure-regulating valve 5 to a negative pressure intake port 13 made on the intake air passage on the upstream side of the EGR port 12.
