Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve fuel consumption by supplying secondary air to an intake manifold in light load and high speed running to provide lean air fuel ratio of mixture.
CONSTITUTION: In normal travelling, air fuel ratio signals of an O2 sensor 6 are added to a controller 10 to change over an electromagnetic valve 24. That is, a secondary air supply device 4 is operated according to rich or lean air fuel ratio signals to supply or cut the atmosphere to an intake manifold 18. Also, an exhaust gas recirculating device 2 recirculates exhaust gas from an exhaust manifold 16 to the intake manifold 18. Next, when a negative pressure sensor 8 detects at least a certain vehicle speed and negative pressure, the device 10 operates the electronic valve 24 to permit negative pressure in the intake manifold 18 to act on a diaphragm chamber 4a for operating the secondary air supply device 4.
