Abstract

A cylinder liner 1 for an internal combustion engine has outlet(s) 23, 24 for lubricating oil, opening into the inside of the liner, connected by distributor pipe(s) 12, 13 located within grooves 16 in the outside of the liner to an inlet which communicates via a connecting piece 9 with an oil supply. The pipes and grooves may extend peripherally and/or axially of the liner and thus the outlets can be positioned for most effective lubrication independently of where the inlet is located on the outside of the liner for ease of access in the cylinder block 2. The distributor pipes may terminate in outlet sockets 14, 15, and the inlet may comprise a junction element to which the connecting piece 9 is releasably connected so that when released the liner and its lubricating system can be removed as a unit. <IMAGE>
