Abstract

A lubricant pan 3 comprises a base portion 2 located near the working parts of the engine and covered by the flow of lubricant and, at one end, a relatively deep portion 1 forming a sump. Lubricant returning from the cylinder head by a return duct at one end of the crankcase passes through an opening 13 into a drain duct disposed in the base portion and extending over substantially the entire length of that portion. The drain duct may be formed by an outer oil-draining rib 10, a longitudinal outer side wall of the base portion and cover 12 in which is opening 13. Alternatively the drain duct may consist of a pipe connectable directly to the return duct. <IMAGE>
