Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce Fe content eluding into slag, by adding a slight amount of colemanite in the desulfurizing agent, when desulfurizing outside the furnace by blowing desulfurizing agent of CaO base in the molten iron in an open vessel such as open ladle. CONSTITUTION:Molten pig iron is desulfurized outside the furnace by adding desulfurizing agent of CaO base in an open vessel. In this case, as the desulfurizing agent of CaO base, besides the main component of CaO, C, CaF2 and CaCO3 are contained, farther colemanite (2CaO.3B2O3.5H2O) is added by 3-10wt%. This colemanite prevents increase of iron oxide in the slag due to temperature drop, by means of drop of melting point of desulfurized slag and improvement of fluidity.
