Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the ingot surface defects occuring in the broken covering material inclusion of conventional methods by combining as specified and disposing a cap-form molding composed of fibrous material or the like and a flat plate molding having a hole at the center in a mold in the bottom pouring ingot molding method of molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: In pouring molten steel into a mold 1 from its bottom, the cap- form molding 3 composed of a solvent, fibrous material and binder is installed with its opening being faced downward to the bottom of the mold and another plate-form molding 4 formed at its center with a hole 10 into which the upper part of the molding 3 fits is installed in the position apart from the bottom of the mold 1, prior to the pouring of the molten steel. When the molten steel 5 flows into the mold 1 from its bottom, the molding 3 is pushed up by the molten steel 5 and fits into the molding 4 to prevent the molten steel from constacting the outside air, hence no oxide films are formed and the inclusion of the covering material particles occuring in the melting failure of the covering as with conventional methods into the molten steel is obviated.
