Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent misfire caused by a sooty spark plug by applying a high tension to the spark plug during the suction stroke to remove the carbon adhering to the surface of the insulator of the spark plug in the form of carbon dioxide. CONSTITUTION:A rotation sensor 75 provides a level signal to close analog switches 47 and 48 so that the analog switches 51 and 52 of a point circuit 50 are caused to repeat ON and OFF actions also by the output signals of a delay circuits 42 and 44 which delay the ignition signals provided by electromagnetic pickups 32 and 34. Therefore, a high tension is generated in the secondary coil 67 of an ignition coil 65 during the expansion stroke of each cylinder after the compression top dead center. This high tension current flows through the carbon adhering to the surface of the insulator 24 of the spark plugs raising the temperature of the carbon so that the carbon is removed in the form of carbon dioxide.
