Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent misfire caused by a sooty spark plug by applying a high tension to the spark plug during the suction stroke to remove the carbon adhering to the surface of the insulator of the spark plug. CONSTITUTION:When an analog switch 47 is closed by a single level signal provided by a warm-up 80, the analog switch 51 of an ignition circuit 50 is caused to repeat ON and OFF actions also by the output signal of an oscillator 44 actuated by the ignition signal of an electromagnetic pickup 34. Consequently, high tension is generated in the secondary coil 67 of an ignition coil 65 plural times during the suction stroke of each cylinder. The high tension applied to the spark plug 20 of each cylinder during the suction stroke raises the temperature of carbon adhering to the surface of the insulator of the spark plug so that the carbon is removed in the form of carbon dioxide.
