Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance supercharging effect at the time of low-output operation of a diesel engine, by arranging supercbarger in a plurality of stages, and connecting these superchargers to an auxiliary blower driven by a motor.
CONSTITUTION: A high-pressure supercharger H and a low-pressure supercharger L are connected to engine E. Blowers Hb, Lb are arranged in series and connected to intake passage 6 via coolers C. Similarly, turbines Ht, Lt are also arranged in series and connected to exhaust passage 5. Further, an auxiliary blower 3 driven by motor 2 is connected at the downstream side of low-pressure blower Lb, and intake port 8 is communicated to an intermediate portion between the above two blowers 3 and Lb selectively by means of selector valve 7 which is opened and closed by a pressure switch 9 operated in response to the intake pressure. With such an arrangement, when the engine output is lowered, auxiliary blower 3 is set into operation with selector valve 7 being closed.
